To support that growing community, we’ve expanded what you can find on our Boat Listing page.
From today, the listing includes:
-
Our own boats, available for purchase and — for selected races — rental
-
Community-owned boats, reviewed and approved by our team
-
Boats that are promoted across our social media channels
-
The option for community members to list their own boats for future crews

Important Note on Rentals
At this moment, we only rent ocean rowing boats to teams participating in the Toughest Row Atlantic or the Toughest Row Pacific.
These races meet the safety, preparation, and logistical conditions required for long-distance offshore rentals.
Teams outside these events can still purchase a boat or present their boat for listing on our platform.
Why Add Community Boats?
Every year, teams struggle to secure a reliable, race-ready boat early enough in their campaign planning. Meanwhile, many excellent boats — fresh off successful crossings — sit unused.
By opening our platform to community listings, we:
-
Increase availability of trustworthy boats
-
Support owners in financing future projects by renting or selling
-
Ensure quality and safety through a clear approval process
-
Bring more teams to the start line
-
Strengthen the global ocean rowing network
This creates a more accessible and sustainable ecosystem for everyone involved.
Our Approval Process
To maintain the highest standards, every community boat goes through a structured assessment. This includes checks on:
-
Structural integrity of hull and cabin
-
Safety equipment and fittings
-
Electrical systems, solar, and batteries
-
Cabin and deck condition
-
Overall race-readiness
Only boats that meet our criteria are added to the listing.
Who This Platform Is For
The expanded listing supports a wide range of rowers:
-
Toughest Row Atlantic teams
-
Toughest Row Pacific teams
-
Returning crews upgrading to a new boat
-
Owners wanting to rent or sell their vessel
-
Teams searching for a budget-friendly second-hand option
-
Adventurers preparing non-race expeditions (purchase only)
Wherever you are in your journey, this platform brings the options closer.
How It Works
1. Boats Built by Us — For Purchase or Race-Specific Rental
You’ll find our D12, D23, and D34 models with specifications, history, and clear terms.
Rental is reserved for Toughest Row Atlantic and Toughest Row Pacific teams.
Purchase is open to all.
2. Community Boats — Reviewed and Approved
Owners can now submit their boats for listing.
After passing our technical and condition check, the boat is added to the platform — available for sale or, where appropriate, rental to Toughest Row teams.
3. Listed on Our Website — Promoted on Our Channels
Approved boats are also promoted on our social media channels, giving owners increased visibility and helping crews discover the right boat sooner.
4. Offer Your Boat for Rent or Sale
If you want to list your boat, the process starts by contacting us at
info@theoceanrowingcompany.com
We’ll guide you through the approval steps and help present your boat to future crews.
What This Means for Future Teams
With this expanded approach, teams now have:
-
Earlier access to race-ready boats
-
Clear terms for rentals (Toughest Row only) and purchases
-
A mix of boats built by us and trusted community owners
-
A curated, transparent, and verified overview
-
A platform where the ocean rowing community comes together
Building a Stronger Ocean Rowing Community
Ocean rowing thrives when people share knowledge, equipment, and opportunities.
By bringing together boats from builders and from the community — and promoting them across our channels — we’re helping more teams find the right vessel and begin their adventure.
Whether you’re preparing for your first crossing or your fifth, the right boat is where everything starts.
